The Strange Magic of Time and Togetherness

It’s a strange feeling—the older your kids get, the less often you get to see them or simply hang out like you used to. Our kids are now 29, 27, and 19 (though our youngest holds on to that age for just four more days as I write this). Thankfully, our youngest is still at home with us, and I treasure the moments we get to spend together.

This past weekend was quiet and comforting. I worked on my website, watched a few good movies, and savored some delicious food. On Sunday, J and W made me breakfast, which already made my heart full. Then, we had some unexpected art time—the three of us creating mixed media pages together.

We used magazine cutouts, old book pages, bits of paint, and a whole lot of imagination. Each piece turned out so different, so uniquely us. There’s something magical about creating just for the joy of it—no rules, no expectations, just play.

These moments, though simple, are the ones that make my heart grow a little bigger. When they choose to create with me, when they genuinely seem to enjoy it—it’s a feeling I’ll never take for granted. Art has always been my happy place, and having them join me there is a gift beyond measure.
